    Dutch Artists: AA MC Bolk

    Adolph Bolk 1888-1960

    Bolk was a flamboyant Dutch painter. He painted portraits, still life paintings and landscapes and was a member of the Amersfoortse Art society. He died in 1960 in Utrecht.

    Bernardus Johannes (Bernard) Blommers 1845-1914

    Bernardus (Bernard) Blommers was a Dutch painter that belonged to “the Haagse School” group and was one of the younger artists that made up the first generation of this movement. Blommers became famous with his romantic genre pieces, depicting life in Dutch coastal towns.

    Johan Buning, (1893 – 1963)

    Still life painting from the Dutch painter Johan Buning 1893 - 1963

    Buning was a self taught painter who took up painting relatively late in his life. It was after his fiftieth birthday that his style began to fully develop. He managed to combine the robust and delicate and the sunny and the sober. Buning was a painter not influenced by fashion and trends but who rather stuck to his style over the years in which ‘atmosphere’ played a leading role.

    Dutch Artists: Alfred Calkoen

    A Calkoen 1917-1999

    Dutch painter, Dutch school, mid century painter, Alfred Calkoen

    Calkoen was a Dutch Australian painter and art teacher that emigrated to Australia with his wife in the 1950’s. His paintings have a mosaic structure and mainly his Australian work is well know.

    Alfred C. Calkoen. Calkoen painted this Australian landscape in lovely natural colors. More works of Alfred Calkoen are known in the same impressionistic style. It was painted around 1950, and is a standing rectangle. Later in his career Calkoen emigrated to Australia with his wife Joke Hovius, who also was a professional artist. During his Australian career, his style began to change and evolved into the now called Melbourne Bayside School. His paintings became characterized by a more abstract, graphical style. Calkoen finished his study in the Netherlands in the Nieuwe Kunstschool (Amsterdam) During his career he also was an art teacher for many years.

    The painting is signed in red paint in the left lower corner ‘Alfred Calkoen’.

    Dutch Artists: Leni Rienks


    Leni Rienks 1914-2014

    Leni Rienks was a sketch artist as wel as a impressionistic painter who was schooled at ‘the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten’ (Rotterdam) She was a student of Lizzy Ansingh.
    During her career she mainly made still lives and city scenes.
    She worked in Rotterdam, as well as some small towns in the Netherlands. During her career she also worked as an art teacher.

    Dutch Artists: H W Eckhardt

    Christiaan Hendrik Eckhardt (1883-1946)

    HW Eckhardt was a Dutch painter, etcher and sketch artist. He mostly became known because of his harbor and waterside paintings near the area of Rotterdam and he also made a fair share of still life paintings. HW Eckhardt is found in ‘Scheen’ page nr 300.

    Dutch artists: C.Dake

    Carel Lodewijk Dake 1857-1918.

    Carl Dake SR lived and died in Amsterdam, the capital of The Netherlands. He was a painter, a drawing artist, etcher and reproduction graphics artist. In 1890 he was honored with the position of master teacher at the “Rijksacademie”  in Amsterdam. He made a lot of etches after Rembrandt and Rubens, as a reproduction artist.He had his education in Amsterdam at the  “Rijksacademie van Beeldende kunsten” and the “Koninklijke academie voor schone kunsten”  in Antwerp, Belgium.

    Later he became a member of “Arti et Amicitae” in Amsterdam and “Kunstgezelschap M.A.B” a society for fine arts  in Amsterdam.
